The KENNAMETAL 4175859 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for external grooving and profiling operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This insert carries the NG2094K designation with a KCU10 grade, featuring an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process for enhanced thermal resistance and tool life in demanding cutting conditions. The cutting width measures 2.39 mm (0.0941 inches) and the maximum depth of cut is 2.79 mm (0.1098 inches). It is configured for right-hand cutting and uses a clamp-style holding method. Machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments install this insert as part of a Top Notch toolholder system.
This insert is suited for grooving applications in metric-measurement setups where controlled cutting width and depth are critical. The K chip breaker geometry helps manage chip evacuation during grooving passes. The 55-degree included angle and 0.19 mm corner radius (0.0075 inches) make it appropriate for precision groove profiles. The maximum depth of cut range falls between 2.00 mm and 3.00 mm, making this insert a match for shallow-to-mid-depth groove work on turned components. It is intended for use in manufacturing shops, job shops, and production facilities running ferrous and non-ferrous materials at the C3 and C4 material grade classifications.
Designed for use with Top Notch series toolholders that accept NG-style grooving inserts. Compatible toolholder references include systems designated for NG2094R/LK insert styles. Verify toolholder seat and clamp compatibility before ordering.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine fully stopped and in a safe, locked-out state before any insert change. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the clamp. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or debris before securing the insert. Do not exceed the recommended depth-of-cut range for this insert size, as overloading can cause premature insert failure or toolholder damage.
