The KENNAMETAL 4175857 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This insert features an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) coating applied via PVD process, which improves wear resistance and thermal performance during high-speed cutting. It carries the manufacturer grade KCU10 and belongs to the Top Notch series, a widely used platform in production turning environments. The insert has a left-hand cutting orientation, a 2.39 mm cutting width, and a maximum depth of cut of 2.79 mm. Machinists and CNC operators working in job shops or production facilities install this type of insert into compatible Top Notch toolholders.
This insert is suited for grooving applications in medium to hard workpiece materials, consistent with the C3 and C4 material grade ratings. The KCU10 carbide grade with AlTiN PVD coating is appropriate for cutting steel and alloy materials where heat resistance and edge durability are priorities.
