The KENNAMETAL 4158489 is a thread forming tap designed for M10x1.25 Metric Fine threading in metal fabrication and machining applications. Built from Powdered Metal High Speed Steel (HSS-E-PM) in the KSP21 material grade and coated with Titanium Nitride (TiN), this tap cold-forms internal threads without cutting chips, reducing the risk of chip-related thread damage. It carries a 6HX class of fit with a modified bottoming chamfer of 2-3 threads, making it well-suited for both blind and through-hole threading operations. Overall length is 100 millimeters, thread length is 16 millimeters, and the part is part of KENNAMETAL's Beyond series T622 line. Licensed machinists and CNC setup technicians are the primary users.
This tap is intended for use in steel workpieces, as indicated by the P material application code, and is rated for both blind hole and through-hole threading. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of a blind hole compared to standard chamfers. With a tapping depth of 39 millimeters and five oil grooves to assist lubrication flow, this tool is appropriate for production machining environments where thread quality and tool longevity are priorities. It is used in job shops, manufacturing cells, and maintenance repair operations working with Metric Fine thread specifications.
Designed for M10x1.25 Metric Fine thread forming in steel workpieces, suitable for blind hole and through-hole applications conforming to 6HX fit class requirements.
Thread forming taps are installed by qualified machinists or CNC operators using a tapping head, tap wrench, or rigid tapping cycle on a machining center. Always ensure the correct pilot hole diameter for M10x1.25 cold-form tapping is drilled prior to use, as thread forming displaces rather than cuts material. Apply appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil before and during the operation. Secure workpieces fully before tapping to prevent movement that can break the tap.
