The KENNAMETAL 4151648 is a screw machine length (stub) drill bit engineered for precision drilling in metal and hard materials. Built from solid carbide and coated with TiAlN at the tip, this bit delivers extended tool life in demanding production environments. It measures 2.2835 inches overall length with a 0.0960 inch diameter and features a 140-degree split point angle for accurate self-starting entry with reduced thrust. The straight cylindrical shank measures 0.1575 inches in diameter. Right-hand cutting with a regular spiral flute, this bit is designed for use in CNC machining centers, screw machines, and automated drilling operations where consistent hole quality is critical.
This drill bit is suited for high-volume production machining in metalworking shops, tool rooms, and manufacturing facilities. The stub length geometry provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it well suited for shallow-hole applications in tight setups. With a maximum drilling depth of 0.4724 inches and a flute-to-diameter ratio of 3xD, it is optimized for accurate, repeatable holes in steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary installers in production drilling and tapping operations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or production drill for use in standard straight-shank drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 0.1575 inch shank diameter, consistent with Series B041A-CPG screw machine length tooling.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Secure the shank firmly in a properly sized drill chuck or collet to the chuck manufacturer's recommended clamping procedure. Do not exceed the recommended feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material, as solid carbide tooling is brittle and susceptible to chipping under excessive lateral load.
