The KENNAMETAL 4151223 is a stub-length (screw machine length) drill bit designed for precision hole-making in metalworking and machining applications. Built from solid carbide and finished with a TiAlN multilayer coating at the tip, this bit delivers high wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting speeds. It measures 4.016 inches overall length with a 29/64-inch (0.4531-inch) cutting diameter, a 140-degree split-point angle, and a right-hand spiral flute configuration. The straight cylindrical shank and tapered web geometry make it compatible with standard drill chucks and CNC tool holders. Coolant-through capability supports chip evacuation in deep-hole and high-production environments. This bit is installed by machinists and CNC operators in job shop and manufacturing settings.
This drill bit is suited for stub-length drilling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous metals where a shorter flute length improves rigidity and reduces deflection. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and 40.00 mm maximum drilling depth make it appropriate for shallow-to-moderate depth holes in production machining. It is commonly used in CNC machining centers, manual drill presses, and screw machine operations where hole location accuracy and surface finish are critical. The DIN 6537K specification ensures dimensional conformance to recognized tooling standards.
Designed as an OEM-style stub-length carbide drill bit conforming to DIN 6537K, suitable for use in CNC machining centers and production drilling setups that accept straight cylindrical shank tooling in the 0.4500 to 0.5000-inch diameter range.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or chuck is de-energized before inserting or removing the bit. Secure the straight shank fully within the collet or drill chuck to the specified grip length before operation. Verify coolant-through lines are clear and delivering adequate flow before initiating cuts in high-production cycles.
