The KENNAMETAL 4150688 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding industrial and production environments. It features a 1/4 inch (0.2500 inch) diameter with a 140-degree split point geometry and a multilayer TiAlN coating applied over the carbide substrate. The overall length is 3.5827 inches with a flute length of 2.0866 inches. The right-hand spiral flute design promotes efficient chip evacuation, and the whistle notch shank provides positive retention in compatible chucks and tool holders. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers and users of this bit.
This drill bit is suited for production drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other non-ferrous materials. The 140-degree point angle reduces thrust force at entry, making it well-suited for harder workpiece materials and interrupted cuts. It is appropriate for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual machine tools where a whistle notch shank can be properly secured. Coolant-through capability is not included in this design, so external coolant or flood cooling is the appropriate method when thermal management is needed.
Designed for use in machining applications involving steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous materials. The whistle notch shank is compatible with drill chucks and tool holders designed to accept that shank style in 1/4 inch diameter. Drill bit size range for this grade series is 0.2500 to 0.3000 decimal inch.
This bit is installed and operated by machinists, CNC technicians, and tool-and-die professionals. Before changing or setting the bit, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped, de-energized, and locked out per applicable machine safety procedures. Secure the whistle notch shank properly in the chuck or holder to the manufacturer-specified clamping torque for that holder type. Coolant-through is not available on this bit, so apply external coolant appropriately to manage heat at the cutting zone.
