The KENNAMETAL 4149228 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding production environments. It features a 6.20 mm (0.2441 inch) cutting diameter, a 140-degree split point, and a multilayer TiAlN coating that extends tool life at elevated cutting temperatures. The straight cylindrical shank measures 8 mm in diameter, and the overall length is 91 mm (approximately 3.58 inches). Two regular spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently, and the tapered web configuration adds rigidity at the core. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and CNC operators typically deploy this drill in production drilling applications where dimensional accuracy and coating durability are required.
This drill is suited for production drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other non-ferrous materials. It conforms to DIN 6537K geometry, making it a direct fit for machine spindles and toolholders sized for an 8 mm straight shank. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and coolant-through capability make it compatible with through-spindle coolant setups, reducing heat buildup during deep-hole passes. Maximum drilling depth is 43 mm (approximately 1.69 inches), with a flute length of 53 mm (approximately 2.09 inches).
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and drill presses equipped with toolholders accepting an 8 mm straight cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous alloys. Conforms to DIN 6537K specification.
Install and tighten in an appropriately sized collet or drill chuck rated for the 8 mm shank diameter before powering the spindle. Ensure the machine is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. When using through-spindle coolant, verify coolant pressure and flow are within the machine and toolholder specifications before initiating a drilling cycle. Inspect the cutting edges and coating condition before each use - chipped or worn edges on carbide tooling should not be run.
