The KENNAMETAL 4148856 is a screw machine length solid carbide drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in demanding industrial and trade applications. Built from solid carbide and finished with a TiN (Tip) coating, this bit delivers extended tool life and reduced cutting friction in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It features a 140-degree drill point angle for precise entry and reduced thrust, two right-hand spiral flutes for efficient chip evacuation, and coolant-through capability to manage heat in deep-hole and high-feed drilling operations. This bit is used by machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and industrial maintenance technicians working with CNC machinery, drill presses, and screw machine setups.
The 4148856 is suited for screw machine and short-hole drilling applications where a stub-length geometry provides rigidity and accuracy. Coolant-through design makes it especially effective in production environments where cycle times are tight and tool temperatures must be controlled. The straight shank allows direct chuck mounting in standard drill presses, CNC machining centers, and screw machines. It is appropriate for use in both job-shop and production-floor settings where consistent hole quality is required across medium to high run quantities.
Designed as an OEM-style screw machine length drill bit for use in standard straight-shank chuck systems on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and screw machines requiring a coolant-through carbide bit in the B051A series.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine fully powered down and locked out per applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the chuck or collet is clean and undamaged before seating the straight shank to prevent runout. Coolant-through systems must be verified to be operating at the correct pressure for the machine before initiating the cut. This bit should be handled and stored carefully to prevent edge chipping, as solid carbide is brittle under side-loading or impact.
