The KENNAMETAL 4148844 is a screw machine length (stub) drill bit designed for high-precision drilling in metalworking and machining applications. Built from solid carbide with a multilayer TiAlN coating, it delivers hardness and heat resistance suited to demanding production environments. The bit measures 2.2835 inches overall length with a 2.40 mm (0.0945 inch) cutting diameter and a 140-degree split point angle. The 140-degree point reduces thrust, improves self-centering, and minimizes walking on entry. Coolant-through construction supports chip evacuation and extended tool life in deep or high-speed drilling cycles. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and CNC operators are the primary users.
This drill bit is suited for precision drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and other hard-to-machine alloys in production shop environments. The stub length format provides increased rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it a preferred choice for CNC machining centers, screw machines, and drill presses where deflection control is critical. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard collets and chucks accepting a 4.00 mm (0.1575 inch) shank diameter. Maximum recommended drilling depth is 12.00 mm (0.4724 inch), consistent with the 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio of the B051A-CPG series.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or production-use drill bit within the KENNAMETAL B051A-CPG series, accepting any standard collet or chuck sized for a 4.00 mm straight cylindrical shank.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with CNC or manual drilling equipment. Ensure the spindle and workpiece are fully secured before engaging the drill. Verify coolant lines are active and delivering adequate flow to the through-coolant channel before beginning a drilling cycle. Do not exceed the maximum drilling depth of 12.00 mm per pass without retracting to clear chips.
