The KENNAMETAL 4148588 is a stub-length (screw machine length) solid carbide drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding machining environments. It features a 3/4 inch (0.7500 inch) diameter with a 140-degree split point for reduced thrust and self-centering entry. The multilayer TiAlN coating at the tip extends tool life in abrasive and high-temperature cutting conditions. Overall length is 5.1575 inches (131.00 mm), with a flute length of 3.1102 inches (79.00 mm) and a maximum drilling depth of 2.1654 inches (55.00 mm). It is part of the Series B051A-CPG and conforms to DIN 6537K specification. Machinists and toolroom technicians install this bit in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and screw machines where rigidity and dimensional accuracy are required.
This drill bit is suited for production drilling applications in metal fabrication shops, job shops, and manufacturing facilities. The stub-length body reduces overhang and deflection compared to jobber-length bits, making it a strong choice when drilling into steel, cast iron, stainless, and similar ferrous materials at high feed rates. The coolant-through design allows internal delivery of cutting fluid directly to the cutting edge, improving chip evacuation and extending tool life in deep-hole or interrupted-cut scenarios. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports efficient chip clearance in short-hole applications.
Designed as an OEM-specification stub-length drill bit in the KENNAMETAL B051A-CPG series, suitable for use in CNC machining centers and drill presses equipped with standard straight-shank toolholders or collet chucks accepting a 0.7874 inch shank diameter.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine fully powered down and spindle at a complete stop. Ensure the toolholder or collet chuck is rated for the 0.7874 inch shank diameter before mounting. Machining professionals should verify feed rate, spindle speed, and coolant supply settings per their shop's established parameters for the workpiece material before beginning a drilling cycle. Follow applicable shop safety standards and machine manufacturer guidelines throughout setup.
