The KENNAMETAL 4146402 is a ceramic turning insert designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining applications. Carrying the industry standard designation CNGA432T0420 and grade KYS30, this insert is manufactured from SiAlON ceramic and left uncoated to deliver a consistent, bright cutting edge. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a negative rake angle and T-Land cutting edge style, producing controlled chip formation on difficult-to-machine workpiece materials. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, insert length is 12.90 mm (0.5077 inches), and insert thickness is 3/16 inches (0.1875 inches). Four cutting edges are available per insert, maximizing cost-per-edge value for production turning environments.
This insert is engineered primarily for turning, facing, and boring of superalloys and titanium, classified under primary workpiece material code S. The KYS30 SiAlON grade provides a balance of moderate wear resistance and toughness suited to interrupted and continuous cuts in nickel-base superalloys, cobalt alloys, and titanium workpieces. It fits KENLOC-series toolholders using a clamp-and-pin holding method and is compatible with negative-style insert pockets. Machinists and CNC operators in aerospace, power generation, and precision manufacturing applications will find this insert appropriate for finishing and semi-finishing passes at elevated cutting speeds where conventional carbide grades lose performance.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting CNGA-style negative inserts with clamp-and-pin holding. Compatible with toolholder pockets specified for ANSI insert code CNGA432 or ISO insert code CNGA120408. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on superalloys and titanium workpieces.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips or debris before clamping to maintain proper insert orientation and prevent premature edge failure. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque specifications for the KENLOC pin-and-clamp system; do not overtighten, as ceramic inserts are brittle and will crack under uneven seating loads.
