The KENNAMETAL 4132011 is a bottoming-style thread forming tap designed for 6-32 UNC internal threads in blind hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps cold-form material to produce the thread profile, eliminating chips and improving thread strength in ductile materials. This tap is manufactured from Vanadium High Speed Steel (HSS-E) for enhanced toughness and wear resistance, and is coated with TiCN to reduce friction and extend tool life in steel workpieces. At 2 inches overall length with a 0.375-inch thread length and 1.5 to 2 chamfered threads at the lead, it is sized for compact blind hole work. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the typical users.
This tap is suited for threading blind holes in steel components where chip evacuation is a concern and material displacement is acceptable. The right-hand, 6-32 UNC thread specification makes it a standard fit for light fastener applications in steel fabrication, machine assembly, and precision metalworking. The TiCN coating provides added durability when tapping medium-carbon and alloy steels at moderate speeds. It is sold and used as a single-piece tapping tool for manual or machine tapping setups.
Designed for blind hole threading in steel workpieces. Material application code P indicates suitability for steel. Part of the KENNAMETAL Series 5502TC thread forming tap line.
Thread forming taps require a larger pilot hole diameter than cutting taps - consult the appropriate form tap drill chart for 6-32 UNC before drilling. Secure the workpiece and use a suitable tapping fluid rated for steel to prevent galling and tap breakage. For machine tapping, use a rigid tapping holder or a torque-limiting adapter sized for small-diameter taps. Always confirm the pilot hole depth provides adequate clearance below the last thread before tapping a blind hole.
