The KENNAMETAL 4130683 is a spiral point plug tap designed for cutting right-hand internal threads to a 10-24 UNC specification. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this tap handles tough threading applications in ferrous and alloyed materials. It features 2 flutes and an H3 thread limit, making it well suited for through-hole threading operations where chip evacuation ahead of the tap is critical. The plug chamfer provides a gradual cutting entry that reduces torque and startup stress on the tool. With an overall length of 2.375 inches and a thread length of 0.875 inches, the 4130683 fits standard tap holders and machines used in production and maintenance shops.
This tap is intended for threading through holes in cast iron, ductile iron, stainless steel, and steel. It is commonly used in machine shops, maintenance and repair operations, and manufacturing environments where consistent 10-24 UNC thread quality is required. The 2B/3B class of fit covers the range from general-purpose assemblies to closer-tolerance fastener applications. The TiN coating extends tool life and reduces friction in harder materials. No coolant-through capability is present, so conventional flood or mist coolant applied externally is the standard approach for this tool.
Designed for threading cast iron, ductile iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces with 10-24 UNC through-hole requirements. Fits standard tap holders sized for a 0.194-inch shank diameter.
This tap should be installed by a machinist or tooling technician using a properly sized tap holder or tapping head matched to the 0.194-inch shank. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is aligned perpendicular to the hole before engagement. Apply cutting fluid or flood coolant externally to reduce heat and extend tool life, particularly in stainless steel. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear before each use, as a damaged tap can seize in the hole or produce out-of-tolerance threads.
