The KENNAMETAL 4114350 is a solid carbide grooving insert carrying the R0505GMN geometry in KCU25 grade with an AlTiN PVD coating. It is designed for external grooving, parting, and profile turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert delivers a 5.05 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 4.09 mm, making it well suited for medium-width groove work where dimensional accuracy and surface finish are critical. The GMN chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation in a range of workpiece materials. Machinists, toolroom operators, and production turning technicians install this insert into compatible A4-series toolholders as a standard indexable insert exchange.
This insert is appropriate for production and job-shop turning environments handling steel, stainless steel, and similar materials within the C2 and C6 material grade classifications. The double-end configuration provides two usable cutting edges per insert, extending tool life per unit. The full-radius geometry with a 2.52 mm corner radius supports smooth groove profiles and reduces stress concentration at the groove root. Insert size designation is 0505, seat size 5, placing it within the Series A4 product family for straightforward toolholder matching.
Designed for use in A4-series grooving toolholders accepting insert seat size 5 and the R0505 insert form. The manufacturer catalog reference for this insert is A4R0505M05U00GMN.
Installation is performed by the machine operator or toolroom technician with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a safe, locked-out state. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat and clamp the insert; do not over-torque the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the insert. Index or replace the insert at the first sign of edge wear to maintain dimensional tolerance and prevent workpiece damage.
