The KENNAMETAL 4109967 is a carbide threading insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision thread-cutting on both internal and external profiles. It carries the KCU25 manufacturer grade with an AlTiN finish applied via PVD coating, offering good wear resistance and heat tolerance in demanding threading operations. The insert produces a partial profile 60-degree thread form and covers an external pitch range of 1.25 to 6.25 mm (4 to 20 TPI) and an internal pitch range of 2.00 to 6.25 mm (4 to 12 TPI). It is sized as an Insert Size 4 with a thickness of 0.255 inches (6.48 mm) and a corner radius of 0.0065 inches (0.17 mm). Machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible Top Notch toolholders for lathe threading work.
This insert is suited for threading operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers in job shops, production machining facilities, and maintenance environments. The right-hand cutting geometry makes it appropriate for standard right-hand thread forms. The broad TPI and pitch range allows a single insert to cover multiple thread sizes in both inch and metric standards, reducing tooling changeover on mixed-production runs. It is typically installed by machinists handling general-purpose threading of steel, stainless, and similar materials.
Designed for use in KENNAMETAL Top Notch series threading toolholders that accept NTP-style inserts. Confirm toolholder seat size and clamping system compatibility before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine spindle fully stopped and energy locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw using the appropriate Top Notch torque key — do not use an impact driver or oversized wrench. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Verify thread form and pitch with a thread gauge after the first pass before committing to a full production run.
