The KENNAMETAL 4109963 is a carbide threading insert designed for both internal and external thread cutting operations. Manufactured in the NTP2R style with a KCU25 grade carbide substrate, it features a PVD-applied AlTiN finish that improves wear resistance and extends tool life in demanding threading applications. The insert covers a partial profile 60-degree included angle, supporting external pitches from 0.70 to 3.00 mm (8 to 36 TPI) and internal pitches from 1.25 to 3.50 mm (7 to 20 TPI). It is a right-hand insert sized at Insert Size 2 with a thickness of 3.81 mm (0.15 inches) and a corner radius of 0.1 mm. Machinists and CNC tooling technicians install this insert in compatible Top Notch series toolholders.
This insert is suited for precision threading on CNC lathes and manual turning centers in both production and job-shop environments. Its partial profile design allows a single insert to cover a range of pitches rather than being locked to one thread pitch, making it a versatile choice for shops threading multiple standard thread forms. Typical applications include threading steel, stainless, and similar materials where an AlTiN PVD coating provides thermal protection and reduced built-up edge. The right-hand cutting geometry fits the majority of standard OD and ID threading setups encountered in general machining work.
Designed for use in Top Notch series threading toolholders that accept NTP style Insert Size 2 inserts with a 60-degree partial profile geometry.
Threading inserts should be installed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a fully powered-down and locked-out state before any insert change. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert clamp hardware specified for Top Notch series toolholders - do not overtighten or substitute non-OEM clamp screws. Confirm insert seating and clamp integrity before resuming cutting operations. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's setup documentation for proper insert orientation and depth of cut recommendations.
