The KENNAMETAL 4109854 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the KCU25 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating, which provides thermal resistance and extended tool life in demanding cutting conditions. The insert features a 4.80 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 9.53 mm, and a 0.57 mm corner radius. The K chip breaker geometry and left-hand cutting orientation make it suited for finish and semi-finish grooving passes where controlled chip evacuation matters. Machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is part of the Top Notch series and is intended for use in compatible Top Notch clamp-style toolholders that accept the size 4 insert seat. It is applicable to grooving operations across a range of workpiece materials consistent with the C2 and C6 material grades. The metric insert size designation is 4189, and the cutting height measures 11.51 mm. The 55-degree included angle and overall width of 6.50 mm define the insert geometry for toolholder seating and clearance planning. This insert is sold individually but requires a minimum order of 5 units per purchase.
Designed for use with Top Notch series clamp-style toolholders accepting a size 4 insert seat. The MSC and manufacturer cross-reference number for this insert is NGD4189R/LK. Verify toolholder compatibility and insert orientation before installation.
Installation of grooving inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing any insert. Ensure the insert pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before clamping the insert in place. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidelines for the clamping screw and confirm proper seating before resuming cutting operations.
