The KENNAMETAL 4109853 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Running in the Top Notch series, it carries the NGD4125K insert style with a KCU25 manufacturer grade and an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process. The insert delivers a cutting width of 3.18 mm (0.1252 inches) and a maximum depth of cut of 6.35 mm (0.2500 inches), making it well suited for moderate-depth grooving work. The K chip breaker geometry and a corner radius of 0.19 mm (0.0075 inches) help control chip flow in demanding interrupted and continuous cuts. Machinists and CNC tool setters working in job shops and production environments are the primary users.
This insert is intended for use in external grooving applications on metalcutting lathes and turning centers where a right-hand cutting orientation is required. The Top Notch series platform uses a clamp-style insert holding method, which provides secure seating during high-feed and high-speed passes. It is appropriate for use on steel, alloy steel, and similar workpiece materials where carbide grades in the C2 and C6 material grade range are recommended. The metric measurement type and 4125 insert size designation align with standard Top Notch toolholders configured for that seat size.
Designed for use with Top Notch series clamping toolholders that accept insert seat size 4 and the NGD4125 insert style. The MSC and manufacturer cross-reference number is NGD4125R/LK.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing or indexing inserts. Use the appropriate torque-limiting screwdriver or clamp key specified for the Top Notch toolholder to seat the insert without over-clamping. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure full and stable contact.
