The KENNAMETAL 4109847 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the NGD3094K insert style in the Top Notch series, it carries a KCU25 grade designation and features a physical vapor deposition (PVD) applied aluminum titanium nitride (AlTiN) coating for extended tool life in demanding cutting conditions. The insert provides a 0.0941 inch cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.25 inches, making it well suited for tight-tolerance grooving applications. A K-style chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is intended for use in turning centers equipped with Top Notch series toolholders that accept the NGD3094 insert size. The right-hand orientation suits conventional OD grooving setups. It is rated for a maximum depth of cut range of 0.200 to 0.300 inches, covering a range of groove depth requirements. The 55-degree included angle and neutral rake geometry make it appropriate for grooving a broad range of workpiece materials where AlTiN-coated carbide provides suitable hardness and thermal resistance. It is a single-use, non-multi-use insert and is sold individually, with a minimum order quantity of 5 pieces.
Designed for use with Top Notch series toolholders that accept the NGD3094 insert size. The cross-reference manufacturer number NGD3094R/LK is noted in the supplier data. Confirm toolholder seating and clamping specifications with the holder documentation before installation.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine spindle locked out and all power isolated per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate Top Notch toolholder clamping screw and torque driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not use improvised tools that may damage the seating pocket. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping mechanism for chips or debris before seating the insert. Replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician familiar with the turning center being serviced.
