The KENNAMETAL 4109790 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for external grooving, turning, and parting operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Manufactured to the NG3094 insert style with a KCU25 grade, it carries a PVD-applied AlTiN coating that improves heat resistance and wear life at the cutting edge. The insert has a 0.0941-inch cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.15 inches, making it well suited to narrow groove profiles. It is configured for left-hand cutting and features a double-end design with a neutral rake angle. Machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is intended for use in ferrous and non-ferrous metal turning applications where consistent groove geometry and surface finish are required. The Top Notch series tooling system is a common platform for grooving and threading on general-purpose turning equipment. The double-end configuration extends insert life by providing two usable cutting edges. The 0.0075-inch corner radius delivers a controlled blend at groove edges, and the 55-degree included angle supports stable chip formation in moderate to interrupted cut conditions.
Designed for use with Top Notch series grooving toolholders that accept NG-style insert seat size 3 inserts. Reference MSC and manufacturer number NG3094R/L for cross-reference purposes.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine in a fully stopped and locked-out state before insert indexing or replacement. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket and confirm the clamping screw is tightened to the toolholder manufacturer specification before resuming cutting. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris prior to seating a new edge. Follow shop safety protocols and applicable OSHA machine-guarding requirements when servicing turning tools.
