The KENNAMETAL 4071903 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for demanding material removal in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hard materials. It features a 0.5-inch mill diameter, a 0.015-inch corner radius, and four right-hand spiral flutes with a high helix angle. The AlTiN PVD coating extends tool life by resisting heat and wear at elevated cutting speeds. At 3 inches overall length with a 0.625-inch length of cut, this is a short-length, single-end geometry built for rigidity and reduced deflection. It is center-cutting and capable of both roughing and finishing operations in a single tool. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers working in production and job-shop environments are the primary users.
This end mill is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hard materials in ISO material groups P, M, K, and H. It fits standard 0.5-inch toolholders and is compatible with Weldon flat retention. The HPHV series designation indicates a high-performance, high-velocity design optimized for aggressive feed rates and deeper axial engagement in harder workpiece materials. Typical applications include shoulder milling, slotting, and profiling on CNC machining centers in both production and prototype environments. The extended reach geometry provides clearance in deeper pockets without sacrificing rigidity at this length class.
Compatible with EM-CV Form AD and EM IN-HSK Form A toolholding systems as specified by the manufacturer. Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard addition for 0.5-inch bore toolholders accepting a Weldon flat shank in CNC machining center setups.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in an e-stop or lock-out condition before changing tooling. Seat the Weldon flat fully against the setscrew in the toolholder and verify runout with a dial indicator before initiating a cut. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and cutting tool manufacturer guidelines for speeds, feeds, and depth of cut for the specific workpiece material.
