The KENNAMETAL 4050699 is a CNMG434RP turning insert in grade KCU10, designed for external and internal turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating over a solid carbide substrate, combining high wear resistance with thermal stability during aggressive cuts. With an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape and a 0.0625-inch corner radius, it delivers consistent edge geometry across four usable cutting edges. The RP chip breaker geometry targets roughing and medium machining applications. A licensed machinist or CNC operator installs this insert as part of a KENLOC tooling system using a clamp-and-pin holding method.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. The KCU10 grade provides a balance of high wear resistance and toughness appropriate for P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), N (non-ferrous), S (superalloys and titanium), and H (hardened materials) workpiece material groups. It is a neutral-hand insert, making it adaptable to both right- and left-hand toolholders. The RP chip breaker is optimized for roughing to medium depth-of-cut ranges, helping manage chip flow and reduce cutting forces in interrupted or continuous cuts on challenging materials.
Designed for use in KENLOC series toolholders that accept CNMG434 inserts with clamp-and-pin holding. Conforms to ANSI insert code CNMG434 and ISO insert code CNMG120416, allowing fitment in any toolholder built to those standards.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Before indexing or replacing inserts, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret. Use the correct torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the insert — do not hand-tighten clamp screws without a torque tool. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a fresh edge to maintain correct insert geometry and prevent premature edge failure.
