The KENNAMETAL 4050682 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG431RP geometry with KCU10 grade, designed for general turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that delivers high wear resistance across a broad range of cutting conditions. Key geometry details include an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 0.0156-inch corner radius, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a neutral hand orientation. With four usable cutting edges and a negative rake configuration, this insert is suited for moderate to heavy material removal in production turning environments. It is installed and managed by machinists, tooling engineers, and CNC operators.
This insert is intended for roughing and medium machining operations. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, K, N, S, and H. The KENLOC series designation indicates compatibility with KENNAMETAL KENLOC-style toolholders that accept CNMG-style inserts with clamp or pin holding methods. The RP chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing and medium cuts, providing controlled chip flow across a wide range of depths of cut and feed rates. This insert conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, with ANSI code CNMG431 and ISO code CNMG120404RP.
Designed for use in KENNAMETAL KENLOC-series toolholders accepting CNMG431 (ANSI) or CNMG120404 (ISO) inserts with clamp or pin insert holding. Compatible with multi-use applications including turning, facing, and boring.
Insert replacement and indexing should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling personnel with the machine spindle fully stopped and all power isolated per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert firmly against the pocket locating surfaces before engaging the clamping mechanism, and inspect the pocket for chips or debris before each index. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.1691 inches without consulting applicable toolholder and workpiece material guidelines. Cutting parameters should be established using the toolholder manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for the KCU10 grade and target workpiece material.
