Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 4050679 is a CNMG431MP indexable turning insert in grade KCU10, designed for metal cutting operations on a lathe or boring bar. The insert features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating over a solid carbide substrate, delivering thermal resistance and edge wear protection during interrupted and continuous cuts. It carries an 80-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation and a negative rake angle of 6 degrees. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, insert thickness is 0.1875 inches, and the corner radius is 0.0156 inches. Four cutting edges are available per insert. It is compatible with KENLOC-style clamp and pin toolholders and is sized to the CNMG431MP / ISO CNMG120404MP industry standard.

This insert is engineered for turning, facing, and boring applications where steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium are the primary workpiece materials. The MP chip breaker geometry handles medium-depth passes with chamfered and honed cutting edges, making it suitable for semi-finish to finish turning in production and maintenance machining environments. The maximum depth of cut reaches 0.1691 inches. Licensed machinists and CNC operators will find it applicable across a wide range of shaft, flange, and bore turning tasks in both job-shop and production settings.

Key Features

  • PVD TiAlN coating for thermal and wear resistance on steel and stainless workpieces
  • 80-degree diamond insert shape (CNMG) with negative rake for strong edge support
  • MP chip breaker geometry optimized for medium-depth turning, facing, and boring
  • Four usable cutting edges per insert for extended tool life per unit
  • Chamfered and honed cutting edge style reduces micro-chipping on interrupted cuts
  • Clamp and pin holding method compatible with KENLOC-style toolholders

Compatibility

Designed for use in KENLOC-style clamp and pin toolholders accepting CNMG431 inserts. Compatible with systems referencing ISO code CNMG120404MP. Rated for primary workpiece material codes P (steel), M (stainless steel), and S (superalloys and titanium), with secondary applicability to codes K and N. Multi-use for turning, facing, and boring operations.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Always index or replace inserts with the machine powered down and spindle locked. Use the correct torque driver for the KENLOC clamp screw to avoid seat damage or insert movement under load. Verify toolholder pocket condition and seating surface cleanliness before installing a fresh cutting edge.
