The KENNAMETAL 4050532 is a solid carbide profiling and turning insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision material removal on CNC and manual lathes. This parallelogram-shaped insert carries the NPL508 style designation and is manufactured in the KCU25 grade with a fine-grain carbide substrate. An AlTiN coating applied via PVD process provides thermal resistance and wear protection during aggressive cuts. The insert features a negative rake geometry, 0 degree relief angle, a 55 degree included angle, and a corner radius of 0.008 inches, making it well suited for contour profiling passes where edge definition and surface finish matter. Four cutting edges extend tool life between index cycles.
This insert is used in profiling and turning operations across a broad range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys and titanium, covering ISO material codes P, M, K, N, and S. It is held in place by screw clamping and is designated for left-hand cutting applications. Typical install scenarios include finish and semi-finish turning on gang tooling setups, turret lathes, and dedicated profiling stations where consistent corner geometry is critical. The common chipbreaker geometry supports general-purpose chip control across these material groups.
Designed for use in Top Notch series toolholders accepting NPL508 insert seats. ISO designation KCGX110302L15 applies. Confirm toolholder hand and seat geometry before ordering.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and the turret or toolpost locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the specified torque driver or hex key for the clamping screw to ensure proper seating without over-torquing the insert pocket. Inspect the insert seat and clamping screw for wear or debris before installing a new insert. Follow the machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when setting cutting parameters.
