The KENNAMETAL 4050522 is a solid carbide profiling and turning insert in the DPGR432 configuration, manufactured to the KCU25 grade with an AlTiN coating applied by PVD process. It features a parallelogram shape with a 55-degree included angle, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a corner radius of 0.0312 inches (0.79 mm). The insert carries a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and an 8-degree relief angle, supporting aggressive chip evacuation during profiling passes. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators install this insert in Top Notch-series toolholders for external profiling and contour turning operations on a range of workpiece materials.
This insert is suited for profiling and turning applications across a broad material spectrum including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys including titanium. The neutral hand orientation and clamp-style holding method make it compatible with standard Top Notch-series clamping systems commonly found in production turning environments, both light-duty finishing and moderate-depth roughing profiles. It is appropriate for job shops and production facilities running CNC lathes and manual turning centers where consistent edge geometry on contoured workpieces is required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert conforming to DPGR432 and ISO code DCGR150408 standards, for use in Top Notch-series clamp-style toolholders. Compatible with workpiece materials coded ISO P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), N (non-ferrous), and S (superalloys and titanium).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and all energy sources locked out per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert firmly against the toolholder pocket before engaging the clamp; do not force a misaligned insert. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating to ensure proper contact and geometry transfer. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque specifications for the Top Notch-series clamping screw.
