The KENNAMETAL 4047829 is a square SPGX-style indexable drill insert designed for use in indexable drill bodies requiring a high-performance carbide cutting edge. Manufactured to the KC7140 grade, this insert features a PVD-applied TiCN and TiN multilayer coating that improves wear resistance and extends tool life in demanding drilling applications. The insert measures 0.25 inches inscribed circle with a 0.125-inch thickness and a 0.0156-inch corner radius. The MD chipbreaker geometry promotes controlled chip formation. Licensed tool-and-die machinists, CNC operators, and metalworking shops install these inserts in compatible indexable drill tool bodies as expendable cutting elements.
This insert is suited for metalworking operations involving ferrous and non-ferrous materials where consistent hole quality and repeatable tool life are required. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable across a range of indexable drill systems. At 90 degrees included angle with an 11-degree relief angle, the geometry is optimized for drilling applications in production machining environments, including job shops and manufacturing facilities running CNC turning centers or machining centers. Inserts are sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 units per order.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement indexable drill insert for indexable drill tool bodies accepting SPGX-style square carbide inserts with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle and insert size 060304.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician following the drill body manufacturer's torque and seating specifications. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate insert clamping screw and torx or hex key as specified by the tool body manufacturer. Inspect the insert pocket for damage or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper support and runout.
