The KENNAMETAL 4045226 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CPGT3252LF configuration, grade KCU10, with a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) TiAlN coating. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch corner radius (0.0313 inches), and a positive rake angle of 5 degrees with an 11-degree relief angle. The LF chip breaker geometry is designed for finishing and light machining operations. The insert provides 2 cutting edges and mounts via screw-on holding method. This insert is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians on CNC lathes and turning centers.
This insert is suited for finishing and light machining passes on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and non-ferrous materials, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, N, S, and H. The KCU10 grade delivers high to moderate wear resistance and toughness across these material groups. Typical applications include turning, facing, and boring operations where close tolerances and fine surface finishes are required. The insert thickness is 5/32 inches (0.1563 inches) with a maximum depth of cut of 0.1268 inches, making it well suited to light finishing passes rather than heavy roughing cuts.
Designed as a screw-on OEM-style replacement turning insert compatible with CPGT-style toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 5/32-inch thick insert. Multi-use application covers turning, facing, and boring operations on compatible CNC and manual lathes.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered down and in a locked-out state per applicable safety procedures. Use the correct torque driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the mounting screw to avoid insert cracking or seating errors. Inspect the toolholder pocket and contact surfaces for wear or debris before seating the insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut listed for this insert geometry during finishing passes.
