The KENNAMETAL 4045212 is a solid carbide turning insert in CPGM3251 geometry, grade KCU10, finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and an 11-degree relief angle. The inscribed circle measures 0.375 inches, insert length is 0.3808 inches, and insert thickness is 0.1563 inches. The corner radius is 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch). With two cutting edges and a honed cutting edge style, this insert is engineered for high wear resistance across steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloy workpiece materials. It is installed via screw-on holding method and carries a neutral hand designation.
This insert is suited for medium machining operations including turning, facing, and boring on CNC lathes and turning centers in both production and job-shop environments. It performs across a range of primary workpiece materials including steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), aluminum (N), superalloys and titanium (S), and hardened materials (H). The chip breaker is a common medium-machining geometry. Maximum depth of cut is 0.1268 inches. This insert targets applications where consistent surface finish and tool life are priorities across multi-material production runs.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for CPGM-style screw-on toolholders. Conforms to ANSI insert code CPGM3251 and ISO insert code CPGM09T304, making it interchangeable with holders specified to either standard.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the spindle before seating or indexing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified seating torque. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before installation to ensure proper seating and prevent premature edge failure.
