Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 4045186 is a WNMG432UP grade KCU10 solid carbide turning insert designed for general turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC and manual lathes. The insert features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating over a carbide substrate, an 80-degree trigon (W) shape, and a neutral hand orientation. With a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 0.03125-inch corner radius, and a maximum depth of cut of 0.2278 inches, it is suited for roughing through medium machining passes. The UP chip breaker geometry and 15-degree positive rake angle improve chip control and reduce cutting forces across a wide range of workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians install this insert on KENLOC-style toolholders.

This insert is engineered for cutting steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. The KCU10 grade delivers high to moderate wear resistance combined with toughness, making it effective in interrupted cuts and variable stock conditions common in job-shop and production turning. The 80-degree included angle provides six usable cutting edges per insert, lowering cost per edge on high-volume runs. It complies with ANSI and ISO insert standards, and its ANSI code WNMG432 and ISO code WNMG080402 ensure cross-reference compatibility with standard WNMG-style toolholders used throughout the metalworking trade.

Key Features

  • PVD TiAlN coating for high wear resistance on steel and stainless steel
  • 80-degree trigon shape with six cutting edges per insert
  • UP chip breaker geometry rated for roughing and medium machining
  • 0.5-inch inscribed circle with 0.03125-inch corner radius
  • Negative rake, negative side clearance for stable clamping under heavy loads
  • Multi-use application: turning, facing, and boring from a single insert

Compatibility

Designed for use in KENLOC-style toolholders accepting WNMG432 inserts held by clamp or pin. Conforms to ANSI insert code WNMG432 and ISO insert code WNMG080402, allowing fitment in any toolholder specified for those standards.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or replacing inserts. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before clamping. Torque clamping screws according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications, not to values assumed from the insert alone.
