The KENNAMETAL 4045149 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation VNMG331FF and ISO designation VNMG160404FF, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process. It features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The KCU10 grade delivers high wear resistance while maintaining moderate toughness, making it well-suited for finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys. It carries four cutting edges and uses a negative rake and negative side clearance geometry. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in KENLOC-compatible toolholders for precision turning applications.
This insert is designed for finishing passes in CNC turning centers and manual lathes. Its FF chip breaker geometry controls chip formation during light-to-moderate depth-of-cut operations. The insert is rated for use on steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), aluminum and non-ferrous materials (N), superalloys and titanium (S), and hardened materials (H). Multi-use applications include turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring. Maximum depth of cut reaches 0.4354 inches, and insert length is 1.3076 inches.
Designed as a replacement-style turning insert for KENLOC-series toolholders that accept VNMG331 geometry with clamp and pin holding method. Insert holding method requires both clamp and pin retention. Compatible toolholders must accommodate a 0.15-inch hole diameter and negative-style seating.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and clamping hardware specified for the KENLOC toolholder to secure the insert; do not overtighten by hand or substitute non-OEM clamp screws. Inspect the insert seat and chip pocket for debris before seating the new insert. Verify insert orientation and seating before resuming cutting operations.
