The KENNAMETAL 4042943 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for use in indexable insert drills where reliable hole-making performance is required. The insert carries the SPPX style geometry with an MD chipbreaker and is manufactured to the KCU40 grade, a PVD-coated carbide grade finished with a TiN and TiAlN multilayer coating for improved wear resistance and thermal stability. The inscribed circle measures 0.619 inches, thickness is 0.234 inches, and the corner radius is 0.0469 inches. Insert size designation is 15T512. Machinists and tool-room technicians working in metalcutting operations will recognize this insert as a standard peripheral or center position replacement for compatible Kennametal indexable drill bodies.
This insert is suited for indexable drill applications in metal-cutting environments including production machining, job shops, and general manufacturing. The PVD TiN and TiAlN coating combination performs well in ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials where controlled chip formation and edge durability are priorities. The MD chipbreaker geometry supports chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations. This insert is sold individually, with a minimum order quantity of 10 units per transaction.
Designed as an OEM-style indexable insert replacement for SPPX-style insert drill bodies accepting a 15T512 insert size with a 0.217-inch hole diameter. Confirm insert position (center or peripheral) and seat geometry with the drill body manufacturer specifications before installation.
Indexable drill insert replacement is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. De-energize and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key to the drill body manufacturer's specified seating procedure — do not over-torque the clamping screw, as carbide inserts are brittle and can fracture under clamp stress. Inspect the insert pocket seat and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert.
