The KENNAMETAL 4033883 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a KCU25 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating, which provides heat resistance and extended tool life in demanding cutting conditions. The insert is left-hand oriented, with a cutting width of 2.39 mm (0.0941 inch) and a maximum depth of cut of 3.18 mm (0.1252 inch). It uses a clamp-style holding method and is installed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians working with precision turning equipment.
This insert is suited for metric-dimensioned grooving applications in both production and job-shop environments. The NU insert style with a 90-degree included angle and a 45-degree lead angle makes it appropriate for square-shoulder grooving profiles. The 0.51 mm (0.0197 inch) corner radius produces a controlled radius at the groove base rather than a sharp corner. It is well-matched to materials within the C2 and C6 material grade ranges, covering a broad spectrum of workpiece materials encountered in general turning work.
The 4033883 belongs to the Top Notch series and is cross-referenced under MSC/Manufacturer Number NU3094R/L. Compatible with Top Notch series grooving toolholders designed to accept the NU3094 insert size using a clamp holding method.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and all spindle motion stopped. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified for the Top Notch toolholder to secure the insert — do not overtighten the clamp screw by hand estimation alone. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for chips or debris before seating the insert. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and toolholder manufacturer guidelines for insert indexing and replacement intervals.
