The KENNAMETAL 3858116 is a solid carbide milling insert in the EDPT series, designed for high-performance face and shoulder milling applications. Manufactured to ISO code EDPT180508PDSRGE and ANSI code EP1808SGE, this insert features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, delivering strong oxidation resistance and wear performance at elevated cutting temperatures. The parallelogram insert geometry with a positive rake angle and right-hand cutting orientation promotes efficient chip flow and reduced cutting forces. Corner radius measures 0.0313 inches (1/32 inch) with a chamfered and honed cutting edge style. Two cutting edges per insert are available. Installation is performed by licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians in production and job shop environments.
This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces, covering material grade classifications C5, C6, and C7 with primary workpiece material codes P, M, and S. It is designed for use in face milling, shoulder milling, and high-feed applications where positive-geometry inserts with PVD coatings are specified. The GE chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip formation across these demanding material groups. Compatible with KENNAMETAL Mill 1-18 cutter bodies per the Mill 1-18 cutter series designation.
Designed for use with KENNAMETAL Mill 1-18 cutter series bodies. Conforms to ISO code EDPT180508PDSRGE and ANSI code EP1808SGE for cross-reference fitment verification.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key to drive the clamping screw to proper engagement without overtightening, which can crack the carbide body. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a new insert.
