The KENNAMETAL 3758169 is a CCMT-style solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal removal in lathe and boring applications. Manufactured under the KCK20 grade, it features a multilayer PVD coating - specifically AlTiN and AlCrN - that provides thermal resistance and edge durability at elevated cutting speeds. The insert carries an 80-degree diamond shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and a 7-degree relief angle, geometry that balances cutting force efficiency with edge stability. Corner radius is 0.0313 inches (1/32 inches) and insert length is 9.67 mm (0.3808 inches). The screw-on holding method ensures repeatable indexing without shimming.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel and cast iron workpieces, covering primary material codes P and K. It is appropriate for both finishing and light semi-finishing passes, particularly where consistent surface finish and tight dimensional tolerances are required. The LF chip breaker geometry promotes efficient chip control in these material groups. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches), which positions this insert in the light-to-moderate cut range. Machinists and CNC operators in production shops, tool rooms, and maintenance turning applications are the typical end users.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard production insert for CCMT screw-on toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert with a 4.40 mm (0.1732-inch) hole diameter. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for CCMT insert geometry. Compatible with turning, facing, and boring operations on steel and cast iron workpiece materials.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC operator. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified insert screw to avoid cracking the carbide body - do not overtighten by hand feel alone. Verify toolholder pocket condition and shim seat cleanliness before seating the insert to maintain accurate tool-nose position.
