The KENNAMETAL 3758154 is a solid carbide turning insert in SNMA643 geometry, designed for high-wear-resistance machining of steel and cast iron. Manufactured in the KCK20 grade, this insert features a multilayer PVD coating combining AlTiN and AlCrN layers to extend tool life in demanding P- and K-category workpiece materials. The square insert shape provides 8 usable cutting edges with a negative rake angle and negative side clearance, making it a cost-effective option for production turning applications. The flat-top chip breaker geometry suits continuous and semi-continuous cutting operations where predictable chip flow matters. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in job shop and production environments are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel and cast iron workpieces in both manual and CNC lathe setups. The SNMA643 form factor fits toolholders designed for the KENLOC series and is compatible with standard ANSI and ISO clamp-and-pin holding systems. The 3/4-inch inscribed circle and 0.25-inch insert thickness place it in a mid-to-large size range, appropriate for moderate-to-heavy material removal passes. Maximum depth of cut is 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm), making it best suited for finishing and light semi-finish passes rather than aggressive roughing.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting SNMA-style inserts with clamp and pin holding. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for SNMA643 and SNMA190612 insert geometries respectively. Suitable for multi-use turning, facing, and boring applications on steel (P) and cast iron (K) workpiece materials.
Insert replacement and seating should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine fully stopped and locked out per established lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Use the appropriate torx or clamping screw driver as specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not overtighten the clamp, as this can fracture the carbide body. Verify insert seating and edge orientation visually before resuming cutting operations.
