The KENNAMETAL 3751974 is a VNMG331FN turning insert in the KENLOC series, designed for negative-rake single-point turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It is manufactured from solid carbide and coated with a multilayer TiCN and Al2O3 coating applied via MTCVD and CVD processes, providing wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted or continuous cuts. The insert features a 35-degree diamond shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius with a honed cutting edge. Four cutting edges are available per insert. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in precision machining, toolrooms, and production shops install this insert using a clamp-and-pin holding method.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on steel and cast iron workpieces, corresponding to ISO material groups P and K. The FN chip breaker geometry controls chip flow across a range of feed rates and depths of cut, with a maximum depth of cut of 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). It is appropriate for both light finishing and moderate roughing passes on ferrous components in automotive, aerospace, and general manufacturing environments. The neutral hand orientation allows flexible tool holder pairing.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders that accept VNMG style inserts with a clamp-and-pin holding method. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for VNMG insert geometry. Suitable for steel and cast iron workpieces across turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine powered down and the spindle locked before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp pin for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Never exceed the maximum depth of cut rating for the insert grade and geometry in use.
