The KENNAMETAL 3744947 is a DCMT3252MP screw-on turning insert manufactured from solid carbide with a multilayer MTCVD coating of TiCN and Al2O3 in the KCP10 grade. It carries a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 12 degrees and a positive side clearance, making it well suited for steel and cast iron applications that demand high wear resistance. The insert measures 11.63 mm (0.9156 inches) in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 5/32-inch thickness, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. Two cutting edges are available per insert. Cutting edge style is honed. The part ships as a single insert with a minimum order quantity of five.
This insert is designed for general turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers where steel (ISO P) and non-ferrous or aluminum (ISO N) workpiece materials are encountered. The MP chip breaker geometry supports both roughing and medium machining passes. Applicable operations include turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring. It conforms to ANSI insert code DCMT3252 and ISO insert code DCMT11T308, covering a broad range of compatible screw-on toolholders designed for DCMT-style inserts.
Designed for use in screw-on DCMT-style toolholders conforming to ANSI DCMT3252 and ISO DCMT11T308 specifications. Suited for primary workpiece materials coded ISO P (steel, cast iron) and ISO N (aluminum and non-ferrous). Material grades C3 and C7 apply.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamping screw — do not over-tighten, as this can crack the carbide body. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a fresh insert.
