The KENNAMETAL 3744936 is a VBMT332MP screw-on turning insert with a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape and KCM25 grade carbide substrate. It carries a multilayer CVD coating — TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3 applied by MTCVD — engineered for high toughness on steel and moderate wear-resistance on stainless steel. The insert measures 16.61 mm (0.654 inches) in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius. It features a positive rake angle of 12 degrees, a honed cutting edge style, and a 5-degree relief angle with positive side clearance. Two cutting edges are available per insert. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert in screw-on toolholders for external and internal turning operations.
This insert is designed for roughing and medium machining passes on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials (material codes P and M). Its MP chip breaker geometry manages chip control across a range of depths and feed rates. Suitable multi-use applications include turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring. The maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.049 inches). It conforms to ANSI insert code VBMT332 and ISO insert code VBMT160408, making it compatible with standard VBMT-style screw-on toolholders used in production and job-shop CNC lathe environments.

Installation is performed by machinists or CNC operators following standard lathe toolholder seating procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping screw for the toolholder to secure the insert without cracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert seat and screw threads for chips or debris before seating a new insert.
