The KENNAMETAL 3744919 is a CCMT3252MP screw-on turning insert in grade KCM25, designed for external turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC and manual lathes. The insert is manufactured from solid carbide and features a multilayer MTCVD coating system of TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3, delivering a balance of wear resistance and toughness suited to interrupted cuts and variable stock conditions. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape provides a strong cutting edge geometry, while the positive rake angle of 12 degrees and honed cutting edge reduce cutting forces and heat generation. This insert is installed by licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
The 3744919 is engineered for roughing and medium machining applications on steel (P-grade materials) and stainless steel (M-grade materials), with secondary suitability for superalloys and titanium (S-grade). The KCM25 grade is characterized as high-toughness for steel and moderate wear-resistance with toughness for stainless steel, making it a practical choice across varied material grades in both high-volume production and short-run work. The MP chip breaker geometry manages chip control across a range of depths of cut up to 0.1268 inches. The neutral hand orientation allows use in standard right-hand and left-hand toolholders configured for CCMT geometry.
Designed for use in screw-on CCMT-style toolholders conforming to ANSI insert code CCMT3252 and ISO insert code CCMT09T308. Compatible with multi-use turning, facing, and boring applications as defined by the CCMT insert standard.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key to engage the screw-on clamp to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and will crack under excessive clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper contact and dimensional accuracy.
