The KENNAMETAL 3744918 is a CCMT3251MP grade KCM25 solid carbide turning insert designed for steel and stainless steel machining in turning, facing, and boring operations. It features a multilayer CVD coating of TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3 applied via MTCVD process, combining wear resistance with toughness suitable for roughing and medium machining passes. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape provides two cutting edges with a positive rake angle of 12 degrees and a positive side clearance, reducing cutting forces on workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. Insert length is 9.67 mm (0.3750 inches) with an inscribed circle of 3/8 inch. Installed by machinists and CNC operators on lathes, turning centers, and boring bars.
This insert is suited for roughing and medium machining of steel (P-class) and stainless steel (M-class) workpieces where high toughness and moderate wear resistance are required. The MP chip breaker geometry manages chip flow effectively across a range of depths of cut up to 0.1249 inches. The screw-on holding method provides secure clamping in compatible CCMT-style toolholders. Applicable in both manual turning and CNC turning center environments across aerospace, general machining, and fabrication shops. This insert complies with ANSI insert code CCMT3251 and ISO insert code CCMT09T304.
Designed for use in CCMT3251-compatible screw-on turning toolholders. Conforms to ANSI insert code CCMT3251 and ISO insert code CCMT09T304, allowing fitment in any toolholder specifying either standard. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring applications on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle and engage all axis locks before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key for the screw-on clamping screw and ensure the insert seat and pocket are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque specifications for CCMT screw-on inserts.
