The KENNAMETAL 3744912 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VBMT332MP geometry with KCP25 grade coating. It features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN and Al2O3 applied via MTCVD process, delivering moderate wear resistance and toughness across a range of cutting conditions. The insert carries a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch corner radius, and an insert length of 16.61 mm. With a positive rake angle of 12 degrees and a positive side clearance, it is suited for roughing and medium machining operations. Licensed machinists, CNC operators, and toolroom technicians install and index this insert in compatible screw-on turning toolholders.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. The MP chip breaker geometry targets roughing and medium machining applications on steel and cast iron as the primary workpiece materials, with secondary suitability for aluminum and non-ferrous materials. The KCP25 grade provides a balance of wear resistance and toughness appropriate for interrupted and continuous cuts in production turning environments. It conforms to both ANSI insert code VBMT332 and ISO insert code VBMT160408, making it compatible with standard VBMT-style screw-on toolholders.
Conforms to ANSI insert code VBMT332 and ISO insert code VBMT160408. Designed for use in screw-on style VBMT toolholders. Compatible with multi-use applications including turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing the insert. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket before tightening the retaining screw to avoid insert rocking or chipping. Inspect the insert seat and screw threads for debris or wear each time the insert is indexed.
