The KENNAMETAL 3690721 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill designed for high-productivity hole-making in metalworking applications. This tip carries the ISO designation KSEMP2800HPGM and is manufactured to Kennametal grade KC7315 using a fine-grain carbide substrate with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. The 140-degree included drill point angle and HPG insert geometry promote stable entry and efficient chip evacuation. The tip mounts in a KSEM Plus compatible drill body using a clamp-style insert holding method. With a cutting diameter of 28 millimeters (1.1024 inches) and a flute length of 14 millimeters, this replaceable tip is suited for precision drilling in production environments where consistent hole quality and tooling economy are priorities.
This tip is intended for drilling operations across a broad range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S. It is commonly used in CNC machining centers and lathes with live tooling where replaceable-tip drills reduce downtime compared to regrinding solid tools. The helical, two-flute design with a regular spiral supports chip flow in through-hole and blind-hole drilling at moderate to high feed rates.
Designed for use with KSEM Plus series drill bodies requiring insert seat size 6. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium (ISO groups P, M, K, N, and S). No coolant-through capability on this tip configuration.
Installation of replaceable carbide drill tips should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing inserts. Clean the insert pocket and seating surfaces before mounting to prevent seating errors that can cause tip breakage. Follow the drill body manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw — do not over-torque.
