The KENNAMETAL 3656464 is a single-tipped polycrystalline diamond (PCD) turning insert in the DNGA style, designed for high-precision machining of non-ferrous metals and aluminum. Running under the KENLOC series, it carries grade KD1425 — a PCD formulation engineered for high wear-resistance to moderate wear-resistance and toughness in non-ferrous applications. The insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 0.03125-inch corner radius, and a flat-top chip breaker geometry. The cutting edge is sharp with a negative rake angle and negative side clearance. It ships uncoated with a bright finish and is compatible with clamp and pin holding methods.
This insert is intended for use in turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on non-ferrous metals including aluminum alloys. It is suited for both light and moderate material grades within the N-class workpiece category (N05, N10). Typical installations involve CNC lathes and turning centers where a DNGA-style tool holder and KENLOC clamping system are used. The maximum depth of cut is 0.05 inches (1.25 mm). This insert is selected by machinists and tooling specialists working in production and job-shop environments where surface finish and edge life on non-ferrous materials are priorities.
Designed for use in DNGA-style tool holders that accept KENLOC clamping systems. Compatible with clamp and pin insert-holding methods. Suitable for machining N-class workpiece materials including aluminum and non-ferrous metals (material grades N05 and N10).
Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Secure the insert using the appropriate KENLOC clamp and pin per the tool holder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before clamping, as contamination can affect edge geometry and surface finish.
