Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 3640703 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in demanding materials. Sized at 6.00 mm (0.2362 inches) in diameter with a 140-degree split point, it is built for precision entry and reduced thrust in hard-to-machine workpieces. The TiAlN coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life under high-heat cutting conditions. At 66.00 mm (2.5984 inches) overall length, this stub-length geometry offers rigidity and accuracy in short-hole applications. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and precision fabricators working on CNC lathes and machining centers are the primary users of this drill.

This drill bit is designed for machining high temperature alloys and stainless steel, materials that generate significant heat and tool wear during cutting. The coolant-through design allows internal coolant delivery directly to the cutting zone, making it well suited for automated machining centers where through-spindle coolant is available. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and web-thinned geometry support efficient chip evacuation in short, high-precision bore operations. Series B291-YPL targets shops running tight-tolerance work where consistent hole diameter and surface finish are required.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide construction provides rigidity and wear resistance for hard material drilling
  • TiAlN coating increases heat resistance and extends tool life in stainless steel and high temperature alloys
  • 140-degree point angle reduces entry thrust and improves centering on hard workpieces
  • Coolant-through design enables internal coolant delivery to the cutting edge
  • Web-thinned, parallel web geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation
  • Straight cylindrical shank compatible with standard collet and drill chuck toolholding

Compatibility

Designed for use in high temperature alloys and stainless steel applications. Fits standard straight-shank toolholders, collet chucks, and drill chucks accepting a 6.00 mm shank. Conforms to DIN 6537K specification.

Installation Notes

Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with carbide tooling and CNC or manual machine operation. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before loading or unloading the drill. Solid carbide tooling is brittle and should not be used in machines with excessive spindle runout; verify runout with a dial indicator before use. Use through-spindle or external coolant appropriate for the workpiece material to prevent premature coating breakdown.
