The KENNAMETAL 3527348 is a solid carbide straight-flute machine tap designed for precision internal thread cutting in non-ferrous and aluminum-based materials. Sized for 1/4-20 UNC threads with a plug chamfer and right-hand cut, it is built to Series 9203 specifications. The tap carries a triple-layer TiN, CrC, and C coating system that reduces friction, resists built-up edge, and extends tool life in demanding production environments. With through-coolant capability and a 3-flute straight-flute geometry, it is suited for CNC machining centers and tapping machines where coolant delivery through the tool is available. Machinists and tooling specialists working in aerospace, automotive, and general manufacturing select this tap for high-accuracy threaded hole applications.
This tap is intended for use in cast silicon aluminum, wrought aluminum, and non-ferrous metals where sharp, free-cutting carbide geometry and lubricity coatings are required to maintain hole quality and thread tolerance. The plug chamfer provides a gradual thread lead-in, making it appropriate for through-hole tapping operations. It fits standard straight-shank tap holders with a 0.25-inch shank diameter and is compatible with both rigid and floating tap holders used in vertical and horizontal machining centers.
Designed for tapping 1/4-20 UNC Class 3B internal threads in cast silicon aluminum, wrought aluminum, and non-ferrous metals. Fits standard 0.25-inch straight-shank tap holders. Series 9203.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle and tap holder are fully stopped and de-energized before loading or removing the tap. Use the correct tap holder torque setting for the machine to avoid tool breakage; through-coolant supply pressure should be verified before operation. Follow applicable shop safety standards and manufacturer feeds-and-speeds guidance for carbide taps in aluminum alloys.
