The KENNAMETAL 3403362 is a CNMG431UP indexable turning insert in the KC5010 grade, designed for high-demand metal cutting operations in CNC and manual turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, it delivers high wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape provides a strong cutting edge geometry suited to both roughing and medium machining chip-breaker applications. With a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 0.1875-inch thickness, and a 0.0156-inch corner radius, this insert fits KENLOC-style toolholders and is installed by machinists and CNC setup technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is rated for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S). The UP chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing through medium machining passes, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.05 inches (1.25 mm). The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with both left- and right-hand toolholder configurations. Four usable cutting edges extend tool life between insert changes. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, with ANSI insert code CNMG431 and ISO insert code CNMG120404.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting CNMG431 (ANSI) or CNMG120404 (ISO) inserts. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring of steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous alloys, and superalloys and titanium. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamping method before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure when engaging the clamp or pin. Inspect the insert pocket seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert to maintain accurate tool nose position.
