The KENNAMETAL 3381620 is a KSEM-series replaceable tip drill engineered for high-performance hole-making in demanding metalworking applications. Featuring a 1-inch (25.40 mm) cutting diameter, the drill accepts an HPL insert geometry tip manufactured from solid carbide KCMS15 grade fine-grain material with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating. The 140-degree drill point angle suits flat-bottom entry and inclined exit conditions. With two helical flutes and a clamp-style insert holding method, the body delivers consistent chip evacuation and tip retention across high-volume production runs. Machinists and tooling technicians install this drill in CNC machining centers and turning centers where indexable tip systems reduce per-hole tooling cost versus solid-carbide alternatives.
This drill is suited for use in residential and industrial machine shops running production drilling operations in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys including titanium. The KSEM platform is designed for applications involving inclined exit surfaces, stacked plates, and standard through-hole drilling. The two-flute, two-margin geometry with standard point type and regular spiral provides stable cutting action across ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S. It is appropriate for use in any CNC setup where a 1-inch indexable drill with a size-5 insert seat is specified.
Designed as an OEM-style replaceable tip for KSEM-series drill bodies accepting a size-5 insert seat with HPL geometry. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys and titanium per ISO material codes P, M, K, N, and S.
Installation and tip indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the spindle fully stopped and machine power locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key specified by the KSEM body manufacturer to seat the clamp securely before resuming cutting operations. Verify insert seat condition and clamp hardware integrity at each tip change. Do not attempt tip changes with the spindle in motion or the machine in cycle.
