The KENNAMETAL 3381191 is a carbide replaceable tip drill in the KSEM series, designed for high-productivity drilling in demanding metal-cutting applications. The solid carbide tip carries an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process, delivering heat and wear resistance needed in production environments. The tip features a 140-degree included angle with HPL insert geometry and a helical, 2-flute, 2-margin configuration. The cutting diameter is 24mm (0.9449 inches), with a flute length of 12mm and an overall projection of 0.6105 inches. The replaceable tip design allows worn or damaged tips to be swapped at the machine without scrapping the full drill body, reducing tooling cost per hole over the life of the holder. Licensed machinists, CNC operators, and toolroom technicians are the primary installers and users of this tool.
This drill is suited for through-hole and blind-hole applications on a broad range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S. The HPL geometry and fine-grain carbide grade KCMS15 support use in inclined-exit conditions and stacked-plate drilling scenarios where tip geometry and edge stability are critical. It is well-suited to CNC machining centers and multi-axis machines running production runs on structural, aerospace, and general industrial components.
Designed for use with compatible KSEM series drill bodies that accept insert seat size 4. Verify body series, seat size, and clamping method against KENNAMETAL KSEM body specifications before ordering tips separately.
Installation of the replaceable tip is performed at the machine or in the toolroom using the appropriate KENNAMETAL torque key for the KSEM clamp system. Ensure the insert seat is clean and free of chips or burrs before seating the tip, as contamination can cause runout and premature tip failure. Always confirm proper seating and clamping torque per the toolholder manufacturer's specification before initiating a cut. Coolant-through capability is not available on this tip; verify coolant delivery method is compatible with the intended application.
