The KENNAMETAL 3380490 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert for the KSEM modular drill system. Carrying the ISO designation KSEM0500HPL and manufactured in grade KCMS15 fine-grain carbide, this tip is finished with an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) PVD coating that improves heat and wear resistance during high-speed drilling. It measures 0.5 inches (12.70 mm) in cutting diameter with a 140-degree included drill point angle and a functional length of 0.25 inches. The helical, regular-spiral flute design with a 2-flute, 2-margin configuration supports stable chip evacuation. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this tip into a compatible KSEM drill body as a fast-change alternative to solid indexable drills.
This insert is suited for drilling operations in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S. It is engineered for standard drilling as well as inclined-exit drilling and stacked-plate drilling applications, making it a practical choice for production environments where a single drill body must handle varied workpiece materials and entry conditions. The HPL insert geometry and insert seat size C interface with compatible KSEM drill body holders.
Designed as a replaceable tip insert for KSEM series modular drill bodies accepting insert seat size C and HPL geometry inserts. Compatible with primary workpiece materials in ISO groups P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), N (non-ferrous), and S (superalloys and titanium).
This replaceable tip is installed and torqued into a matching KSEM drill body shank by a machinist or toolroom technician following the drill body manufacturer's clamping procedure. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing any replaceable tip insert. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper seating and runout. Do not use the insert in a drill body with a damaged or worn seat, as improper seating will affect hole quality and tool life.
